Pressure Seal FAQ
Below are some of the frequently asked questions about Pressure Seal and the options available. If you don't see the answer you're looking for, feel free to contact us.
How is a Seal Direct pre-glued form sealed?
The form is sealed using the Seal Direct machine. The Seal Direct machine folds the paper, aligning the patterns of glue which were previously applied to the paper. After folding, the document will travel through a number of rollers inside the Seal Direct machine. These rollers apply the required pressure to the form activating the glue and creating the seal.
Why doesn't pressure from a laser printer activate the glue?
The glue used on Seal Direct pre-glued forms is only activated when it comes in contact with itself under extremely high pressure. Any other pressure, as well as heat, does not affect the glue pattern. This is especially true when pressure is only applied to one side of the glue pattern.
Are there different kinds of glue available?
There are many types of self-mailing form adhesives available. As with any product, some are better than others. There are variations in the chemistry and application method.
The method of applying the adhesive to the form, however, is likely more important than the actual type of adhesive used. We take great care to ensure our Seal Direct pre-glued forms are the best available.
Are Seal Direct pre-glued forms affected by extreme heat or cold?
As long as the forms are properly wrapped, extreme temperatures should not affect them. However, the forms should be acclimated to the printing room at least 48 hours before use.
Are there any special handling requirements for Seal Direct pre-glued forms before or after printing?
Seal Direct forms should be kept in the original packaging to ensure the moisture content of the paper is maintained. The paper should also be acclimatized to the printing room at least 48 hours prior to printing. After printing, the forms should be placed curl-side down to remove any curls caused by passing through the printer.
What makes a good Seal Direct pre-glued form?
The most important aspects of a good pre-glued form are glue chemistry and application method. Strict quality control is required during the manufacturing and application of the glue. Another important aspect is the perforation alignment.
While the glue is vital to the security of your document, the perforation is vital to the image you portray to customers. The perforation is how your customers open the document, so proper alignment is a reflection of the care you show in communicating with them. Other factors include paper type, print quality, packaging and storage.
What should I expect from the Seal Direct System?
After folding and sealing, the form should have a secure bond. The perforations and seal should be consistent from form to form. The Seal Direct Machine should be of high quality and easy to use, while meeting your speed and capacity requirements.
Why are there different glue patterns?
Glue patterns vary as their function dictates. Some forms are used for postal applications, while others are used in forms manufacturing. Personal preference and use dictate the form size and way of opening required. There are some basic patterns that meet most needs, and our professional team can help you find the right fit.
Can I use Seal Direct forms with my high-end printer?
High-end printers sometimes use additional agents (oils) to aid the document in flowing through the machine. These agents could possibly weaken the seal. Prior to use, we advise discussing your exact printer specifications so you can be sure your Seal Direct forms provide the results you expect.
Who is a good candidate for the Seal Direct System?
Basically, any one-page document you are currently placing in an envelope to mail is a good candidate for Seal Direct. If you currently have multiple page mailings, we might also be able to help you convert that into a one-page document suitable for pressure seal mailing.
The Seal Direct System is also perfect for any secure information. Since the form is printed and sealed without human eyes ever seeing the information, you can safely and securely print PIN information, paychecks, etc. without worrying about who will see it.
Is there a good cost justification for buying a Seal Direct System?
Definitely. Although specifics can sometimes be difficult to verify, some benefits you can easily see are: reduced processing time, no need to buy envelopes, postage costs, confidentiality, manpower, and maintenance costs.
